Self-Care

With all the stress and pressures of family life and work, it can be easy to forget self-care but setting aside time to nurture your inner (and outer) beauty is hugely important! There are plenty of ways to do this at home.  A couple of hours spent meditating can alleviate stress, improve your sense of empathy and even get your creative juices flowing. Or you could try aromatherapy.  Experimenting with different scents often allows you to activate different areas of your brain, helping you to focus or even to sleep.

Sometimes, after a long week, it’s important to take an extra step in addressing stress. Spa days, for example, can help you to relax and also remove any harmful toxins that you’ve accumulated throughout the week. You might opt for a full body massage, facial treatment, water therapy, mud masks, steam room, pedicures, or hot stones – either way, the important thing is that you’re dedicating time to yourself and feeling great.

Learning

Feeling your best is often about playing the long game. That means taking steps to improve your future prospects and learning new skills that will serve you for years to come. It’s important to set goals and work towards them consistently – for example, if you’ve ever wanted to get a master’s degree, you could go back to school or enroll in an online program. With remote learning, it’s often possible to juggle a degree with full-time work. An MBA could help you to foster new skills in business, strategy, and management, as well as teach you about leadership, self-awareness, and self-assessment.

Learning isn’t just about institutional education – part of feeling great is also about learning skills that you truly enjoy. As an adult, it’s important to ask, ‘what can I do now that I might have been unable to as a child?’ For many of us, adulthood provides the opportunity to learn an instrument, paint a canvas, or learn to cook. It feels great to fill in the gaps of yesterday, and it’s never too late to try.

Physical Health

The most practical way to look and feel at your best is through diet and exercise. Getting active can feel like an uphill struggle during the workweek, but it’s important to remember that the hardest part is often the first part. If you want to get back into exercising, remember to set simple, manageable goals and to start slowly – progress is a given if you keep at it, but to keep at it you’ll need to space apart from your sessions and work within your limits.

It’s difficult to overstate the value of diet in affecting appearances and general well-being. If you can get into the habit of cooking, you’ll take control of what goes into your body, cut down on fast food, and save cash in the process. If you’re not an experienced cook, there are plenty of beginner’s recipes that can help you to ease into things.

Feeling, looking, and being good is often a lot harder than anyone gives it credit for, but if you’re willing to put the hours aside and focus inwards, the benefits can be enormous and long-lasting.
